Independent Artistic Production

Before he collaborated with SOUNDTRACK Records, Tony Carnevale entirely conceived, produced, and released seven albums: the first two with the ARTONICA label, where Tony was the artistic director. These were followed by five more albums, four of which were released by ARTONICA 96, two as TC Open Project, and one with DGP Entertainment.

2009 – Dreaming A Human Symphony

After 2006, Tony became engaged in writing a choral work intended for the theater as a counterpoint to the introspective work of his previous album, Piano.
It is a daydream that involves a large number of artists, regardless of their professional background, from students in music development Laboratories to internationally renowned musicians.

Dreaming a Human Symphony (CD, Artonica 96)
is Tony Carnevale’s seventh release. It was released in 2009 and remastered in 2013.(see https://www.facebook.com/tcopenproject/).

This monumental work was first presented in 2009 at the Funnel in Rome, but it will indeed have much more to say in the future…

Dreaming of a Human Symphony, a humanity that can resonate emotionally, vibrating together through the power of sound. It is also a research for a ‘place,’ not a material one but a metaphorical one, where you can truly be yourself: to deeply experience human connection.”

2006 – Piano

After an intense, energy-filled experience like the Live performance, Tony felt the necessity for a more intimate project. The result is a collection of tracks born in different times and contexts but linked by a reflective nature. It is a collection of deep and intense emotions told “piano”.

The artist’s sixth work was born in 2006, officially marking the experience of the TC Open Project, “Piano (CD, Artonica 96).

Piano’ is a word that means so many things, but here there’s no ‘piano’ in the sense of ‘pianism,’ nothing that exists for its own sake; I simply wanted to offer something, without any professional role or image in mind, feeling only the emotions and thinking about the possibility of other human beings feeling moved..

2003 - Live Symphonic-Rock Concert

This is the recording of a concert held at the Frontiera Club in Rome in 1996. It featured thirteen musicians, including Francesco Di Giacomo and Rodolfo Maltese from Banco. It was such a beautiful event that it couldn’t remain a one-off performance. In 2003, following participant requests in his Laboratories, Tony captured it on record and made it part of his discography.

Live Symphonic-Rock Concert” (CD, Artonica 96), became the artist’s fifth album

2002 - Una Bellezza Che Non Lascia Scampo

In 2002, the soundtrack that Tony Carnevale composed, arranged, orchestrated, conducted, performed on piano, and produced for the film “Una Bellezza Che Non Lascia Scampo”, dwas released as an album on CD under the label DGP ENTERTAINMENT Record Records.

“…I wanted my music, but I didn’t know what it was: the inner sound that follows my solitude, my time. How Tony took my torment and discontent and turned it into such touching notes, transforming my stare into melodic lines where I can now find some peace by recognizing myself, I can’t say. (…) He has never left me alone, guiding me along a silent path that came to life with unknown sounds.”

1999 - III Movimento

Towards the end of the 1990s, Tony Carnevale’s experiences in the field of dance were solidifying, thanks to his collaboration with choreographer Elisabetta Melchiorri.

The connection between musical production and film scores led to the 1999 release of “III Movimento – A dance Opera for Rock Symphonic Orchestra”in the form of a triple CD, to gather all the music that made up the soundtrack of the eponymous choreographic work created with Elisabetta Melchiorri.

Thus, a union: on the one hand, the merging of sounds, where the “invisible” movement of modern rhythms meets that of the symphony orchestra, aiming to create a “modern symphonic” supported by a strict compositional structure with contrapuntal elements, while still taking into account the individuality of the performers; on the other hand, the “visible” movement of bodies, both tangible representations of the unseen flow of human creative thought.

In this work, Tony returns to his confrontation with classical tradition, arranging M. Musorgskij’s “Quadri Di Un’Esposizione” he album’s third track. SIAE also recognized the work as semi-original (Carnevale—Musorgskij).

1995 - La Vita Che Grida

Tony Carnevale’s second album developed over several years, continuing his previous search while shifting from a solo vision to a collective one. This characteristic would define his production for a long time through building a network of relationships with important musicians.

A significant opportunity came on April 22, 1993, when he took part in the “Progressivamente” concert at the Castello di Roma, where Banco del Mutuo Soccorso also performed, featuring three of the band’s members (Di Giacomo, Maltese, Calderoni).

.

This event marked the start of a long-standing collaboration between Tony, singer Francesco Di Giacomo, and guitarist Rodolfo Maltese.

Mai avrei potuto pensare che le coincidenze della vita mi avrebbero portato a lavorare insieme a quei mitici musicisti che avevano fatto da colonna sonora alla mia prima estate da adolescente innamorato

(Tony Carnevale)

During this period, the concerts featured, alongside Francesco and Rodolfo, a rotating lineup: on drums, Pierluigi Calderoni (Banco) and Fabrizio Fratepietro; on bass, Pippo Matino and Fabio Fochesato; on sax, Giancarlo Maurino; on percussion, Riccardo Cascino; on guitar, Rudy Costa; and as vocalist, Daniela Soraci.
In the same year, Tony performed with his band at the concerts “Frammenti – percorsi sonori non omologabili” at Castel S. Angelo e al Big Mama in Rome, where he had the opportunity to develop his compositions and arrangements, conduct the instrumental group, and play piano and keyboards.

The album “La Vita Che Grida” (CD, Artonica) was released in 1995. Its title track was included in fascicolo 6 titled “Alla ricerca del nuovo: il rock progressivo (CD La Repubblica/EMI Italiana), from compilation “L’Italia del rock”, series, which sold around 120,000 copies.

In 1995, the second track “Fuoco E Ferro” was included in the “Thunder Ermitage”magazine compilation “Tuono” (CD THN 0130-2)

In the same year and the following one, Tony performed the tracks from the new album at the Mostra d’Oltremare in Naples for the “Musa Musica” event (1995),in Grosseto – for Lega Ambiente – and at Frontiera in Rome for the “Concerto Grosso” event (1996), later repeated at Alpheus and Big Mama.

1990 - Risonanze

Tony Carnevale’s first solo project emerged from his artistic exploration, which he had been pursuing since 1986. In 1989, an initial opportunity arose thanks to an art exhibition by artist Roberta Demuro titled “Risonanze: Inconscio, Musica, Pittura”at the Princess Hotel Congress Hall in Rome.

The exhibition was accompanied by a video projection featuring moving footage of the displayed paintings, synchronized to Tony’s music. It became the occasion to gather the compositions he had entirely arranged, orchestrated, performed on piano and keyboards, and produced as an entirely self-directed artistic project under his independent musical production.

In 1991, “Risonanze” (CD, Artonica)was released, accompanied by a book containing photographs of Roberta Demuro’s artworks and poetic writings by various authors.

Risonanze was included in the Enciclopedia do Rock Progressivo, published in Brazil, and received significant appreciation from progressive rock fans despite being intended for a modern symphony orchestra.
